Racist mailer surfaces in special election

Republicans are up to their same tricks, relying on racist tropes to try to draw out their base for a special election in portions of Henry and Newton Counties taking place on Tuesday, January 9. The special election covers seats for both the State Senate and State House of Representatives. Competitive Race in HD 111: Rep. Brian Strickland vs. Darryl Payton

Henry County has a competitive House race on it’s hands — with conservative incumbent Rep. Brian Strickland squaring off against Democratic challenger Darryl Payton. Rep. Strickland has a clear, conservative record. He voted for the anti-gay “religious freedom” legislation Gov. Nathan Deal ultimately vetoed; for funding unregulated, anti-abortion crisis pregnancy centers (read more about that legislation here); in favor of campus carry; and supported Gov.
