In less than a month, Taylor Bennett could end the conservative supermajority in the Georgia House of Representatives by defeating J. Max Davis.
On Tuesday, in what the AJC called “the most important surprise of the evening,” Democratic candidate Bennett finished first in a four-way race to replace Rep. Mike Jacobs (R) – Brookhaven.
And on August 11, if former Georgia Tech QB Bennett defeats second-place finisher Davis (R), the scandal-ridden former mayor of Brookhaven, he will end the conservative supermajority in the Georgia House.
If voters are informed about this election and learn the facts about both candidates, Bennett will win.
That’s where you come in. By chipping in just $8 or more to Better Georgia today, you can make sure more voters are informed about the upcoming election.
Very few people will know that there is an election on August 11 so we must have the resources to tell them.
The final result of this race will have a statewide impact.
Right now, with one Independent typically voting with the Republicans, conservatives in the Georgia House enjoy a de facto supermajority of 120 seats to 60. A Bennett victory will prevent the conservative leadership from passing constitutional amendments and overriding vetoes without reaching across the aisle.
A victory by Bennett will signal the beginning of the end of one-party rule in Georgia and mark an important shift in Georgia’s political landscape.
Last night, even the conservative Peach Pundit blog admitted:
“… if Bennett defeats Davis on August 11, it could signal a dramatic, political changing of the guard in an important metro Atlanta house district.”
You can be part of this change. You can make it happen.
At Better Georgia, we’re already working to tell voters about the opportunity to take part in this historic election but we need you to help us finish strong.
There are two things you can do to help:
- Make a contribution of just $8 today so that Better Georgia can reach more voters and tell them about this historic election. They won’t know to vote unless we tell them!
- If you live in Georgia House District 80, make a plan TODAY to vote, on August 11 or during early voting. Find your polling place here.
We have a rare opportunity to change the direction of our state, and, together, we can.
