Real quotes from real conservatives about the confederate flag

flickr-Olaf Gradin

Georgia’s conservatives are really not happy with the rapid changes around the nation to get rid of the Confederate flag – an enduring emblem of hate from the Civil War and the Civil Rights-era South.

Here are just a few of the comments we’ve received by email since Monday when we started calling on Gov. Deal and our legislature to remove the Confederate flag from state-sponsored license plates:

I for one have no interest in signing your petition. I am not ashamed of my heritage and I do not see the flag as racist or offensive. So you can try your petition with others, as my sons of confederate veterans tag will remain on my truck regardless of what you think. – “King Kyle”

It’s about damn time these politicians started standing up for the majorities instead of the minorities. I’m sick and tired of hearing race, race, race!!! Ask yourself, if a black man had shot 9 white people in a Church, would the word race been mentioned? I think not. – Kay K.

The Confederate flag only represents hate because black people hate white people. It’s my heritage and I’m prepared to die for that flag! This is just another example of Caucasian Americans being forced into submission by coward politicians!  End of story except you sir need a history lesson! – Wendy D.

I am not a PC history hating liberal. I am proud of my Southern Heritage. Too bad you are not but it’s to be expected. You people don’t believe in anything but made up history. – Bill C.

Do not remove the Confederate flag. I am sick of hearing all the reasons people don’t like the flag. We have aliens in our country that don’t like the American flag. You planning on bowing to the minorities and take it down? I’m tired of having my damn rights taken away by you bleeding heart liberals!!!! – Kay K. (Again)

I don’t support you or your ways of thinking. If people were allowed to carry in church then maybe somebody could have stopped this mad man! I am pro 2nd amendment! You are trying to take this bad moment and use if to spew your agenda. Count me out! – Jim D.

There are those of us who definitely aren’t racist but consider the flag a part of our heritage representing a period of our history and represents the Confederacy during that period when the war was not fought over slavery, but state’s rights. It’s like everyone wants to be “politically correct” and ignore that this is a part of our very proud heritage as Southerners.  The American flag stands for freedom, individuality, and opportunity and the Confederate flag stands for family, home, and honor.  It’s the racist rednecks who choose to use this flag for more than it was intended, but that doesn’t mean that everyone who honors it as part of our heritage is a racist and that it should be banned.  It’s the same thing that no longer can we refer to the UGA band as the Dixie Redcoat band but just the Redcoat band and that Dixie can no longer be played at the ballgames. – Mary C.

You don’t like the Confederate flag well so be it. I see racism in such things as the NAACP, the black caucus, BET network and several other causes supporting blacks over whites, where is the equality there. If this crazy man had been holding a picture of Martin Luther King , would King be castigated in the media. I think not ! Taking the Confederate flag down won’t stop black on black crime or killings . Use your efforts and those of the NAACP to stop drugs and killings in the black neighborhoods , where many more blacks die everyday than this nut killed, where barely a whimper is spoken about what blacks are doing to themselves and others. – Donnie C.

before you start your Petition why don’t you research the true history of the flag before the history was distorted. – Troy P.

When nut-jobs wave the Confederate flag and do atrocities, it diminishes the magnitude of their crime to blame it on a flag, for goodness sake!   He also had jeans on in his picture – are you going to try to outlaw jeans too?! – Linda E.

We read – and often respond – to these emails so that you don’t have to.
