Yesterday, Trump abruptly fired the director of the F.B.I., James B. Comey, who was in the middle of leading a criminal investigation into whether Trump’s advisers and the Russian government worked together during the presidential election to ensure Trump’s victory.
Trump’s actions are a blatant attack on democracy, but 6th Congressional District candidate Karen Handel refuses to speak out against Trump.
How can you criticize someone who raised $750,000 for your campaign?
After waiting a full day to say anything at all about Trump’s Nixonian firing of Comey, Handel finally came out with this statement, which doesn’t even include Trump’s name, let alone a call to continue Comey’s investigation into Trump’s Russia ties:
Trump cites Comey’s investigation into Hillary Clinton’s emails as the reason for firing the director of the FBI, but he directly profited from these investigations during the election and even applauded Comey for his efforts.
Clearly, it’s a farce — Trump doesn’t want the FBI digging into his dealings. He can’t hold up to scrutiny, so, like a tin-pot dictator or Tricky Dick, he’s eliminating those who threaten to expose whatever corruption he’s covering up.
Jon Ossoff is standing up against Trump and his corruption. Ossoff is calling for an independent prosecutor to investigate any Russian ties Trump may have — he’s ready to hold the president accountable.
While seems Handel is ready to embrace Trump when it means more support and more funds for her, she ducks out of the public eye whenever Trump makes a controversial decision.
As Trump’s handpicked candidate, she won’t stand up against him. If she won’t call him out on this flagrant attack on transparency and honesty, we can be sure that she will not stand up for Georgia or do what’s right for its citizens.
