Ossoff and Handel in dead heat

As the special election for the Georgia’s 6th Congressional District continues, Jon Ossoff continues to perform well in the polls — despite the support Trump and Gov. Nathan Deal are funneling toward Ossoff’s opponent Karen Handel.

In a recent poll conducted by Anzalone Listz Grove Research, Ossoff is leading over Handel by one point at 48-47.

Though it’s a tight race right now, Ossoff is pulling in the voters he needs to win. He’s leading by 12 points among voters who voted on April 18 but not in the 2014 midterms — exactly the kind of voters that could help him win this election.

Ossoff’s campaign manager Keenan Pontoni sees the poll results as a testament that Ossoff is on his way to victory.

“Four months ago, nobody expected us to even break 40 percent,” said Pontoni. “Now, after our historic first-place finish on April 18th and this encouraging poll, we’re seeing the results of our community’s massive outreach efforts, and with our plans to ramp up those efforts even more, our campaign is well-positioned to win on June 20th.

Meanwhile, Handel has been accepting support from her friend Trump — from shout-outs at the NRA Convention to some serious fundraising. Just last week in Georgia, Trump helped Handel raise over $750,000 for her campaign.

It makes sense that Trump would throw his support behind Handel, telling her she’d “better win.” Like Trump, Handel wants to gut accessible, affordable health care and has a horrible record on women’s issues.

Trump’s not the only one Handel is chummy with — Gov. Nathan Deal endorsed Handel this past week as well.

We don’t need any more of Trump’s influence here in Georgia, and we certainly don’t need another Trump or Deal making decisions about our state. These corrupt, dishonest politicians can put money behind Handel, but progressive Georgians will continue pushing back against these conservative forces.

Early voting begins on May 2, so be sure to cast your vote for Ossoff if you live in the 6th district. Visit My Voter Page to find early voting locations in your area. If you don’t live in the 6th District but want to support Ossoff, chip in toward Better Georgia’s campaign to reach voters and we’ll thank you with a “Vote Your Ossoff” T-shirt and other gear.
