Congressman Lewis is, of course, one of the most well-respected elected officials in the country, earning his place in history as a civil rights legend who survived a brutal police beating in Selma which left him with a cracked skull. He now represents the hometown of his confidant and mentor, Martin Luther King, Jr.

Trump’s ill-advised tweet was in response to Lewis’ comment that Trump was “not a legitimate president,” which some Georgia GOP politicians used to defend the President-elect.
