Superintendent Richard Woods fires Jeremy Spencer

Top school official Jeremy Spencer was fired today for the racist, bigoted and homophobic posts on his personal Facebook page.

Because of your action, Superintendent Richard Woods backed off of his original statement that it would take two weeks to investigate. Instead, he did the right thing by taking swift action and letting Georgians know that hate speech will not be tolerated.

Together, we made Richard Woods feel the pressure on this important issue and take immediate action.

Last night, when we first learned of these bigoted online posts, we immediately called for Jeremy Spencer to be fired and alerted Georgia media to this breaking story.

Thanks to the media coverage and your actions on Better Georgia’s Facebook page and online petition this morning, Richard Woods made firing Spencer a priority instead of kicking the can for two weeks. This is the power that we have as progressives who are willing to speak out when we witness injustice in our state.

Thank you for making a difference today.
