Macon band director fired for same sex marriage

In Macon, popular band director Flint Dollar has been fired for marrying someone he loves.

According to news reports, the Mount de Sales Academy band director says he was fired because he plans to marry his male partner of six years.

The most outrageous part of this story is that the school’s employment policy includes protections for sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression.

But Flint Dollar was fired despite that policy.

WMAZ13: Macon band director blames same-sex marriage for firing

In Georgia, we know that words on paper aren’t enough to stop discrimination.

In fact, we have no laws and no protections from discrimination in the workplace for LGBT workers in Georgia.

Any employer can fire any employee simply because they are gay.

We believe this is wrong.

Take action today.

Sign Better Georgia’s petition: Give Macon band director Flint Dollar his job back.

One day we will have laws to prevent blatant discrimination in the workplace.

But today, we need you to speak up and say that firing an employee for marrying someone they love is simply wrong.

Sign the petition.
