Join Gov. Roy Barnes. Support Better Georgia.

June 13, 2012 By Bryan Long Leave a Comment

Are you tired of the direction of Georgia politics?

Are you tired of leaders who are more concerned with pleasing party leadership than effectively addressing the issues that most Georgians care about most?

Better Georgia is a new and growing nonpartisan, nonprofit group organized in 2011 at the urging of progressive leaders like former Gov. Roy Barnes.

I’ve decided to step up and invest in a progressive movement that forces our leaders to focus on real problems for real Georgians. I recently made a substantial financial commitment to Better Georgia, a new and growing non-partisan organization that’s changing the debate and holding our leaders accountable.
Once again, I’m asking you to join me in a worthwhile progressive initiative. First, I invite you to learn more about Better Georgia, an organization that I believe will create a long-term, sustaining progressive agenda for this state.
Second, I encourage you to invest in Better Georgia’s mission through a financial commitment.
-Roy E. Barnes

Better Georgia’s mission is to build a permanent progressive infrastructure that hasn’t existed in Georgia until now. We will advance progressive values, ballot issues and candidates.

Party-driven partisan politics is holding Georgia back. Political parties are no longer the most effective or the most efficient way to support progressive values, ballot issues or candidates.

All you have to do is look at the laws passed in last session to know that progressive values are being ignored, sometimes by politicians from BOTH parties: like the importance of investing in high quality public education, protecting the HOPE Scholarship, making sure we care for our precious natural resources and making sure every citizen has access to an adequately funded judiciary.

Better Georgia is based on a proven model and supports core progressive values like:

  • Making sure every child, in every classroom, in every school in Georgia has access to a high quality public education, and when they’re ready for college, making sure the HOPE scholarship is there to help make a college degree a reality.
  • Advocating for every resident’s right to equal and impartial justice under the law. All Georgians are equal in the eyes of God and should be equal in the eyes of the law.
  • Honoring our moral obligation to leave our children and grandchildren with an earth as safe, beautiful and majestic as the one our parents and grandparents gave us.Ensuring the American Dream of opportunity for all guides government policies at all levels.

We hold candidates and officials of all political parties accountable on these core issues.

We are nimble and have the ability to create permanent infrastructure, including message development, and to support the election of progressive candidates.

We are efficient. We can do much with little.

If adequately funded, we can advance progressive issues, elect progressive candidates and support progressive lawmakers once they get to the Gold Dome.

Quit or grow? An important deadline approaches.

Creating Better Georgia to fight conservative leadership has been exciting, but the entire project will fold without your financial support.

What we’ve accomplished so far, on a shoestring budget, has been effective.

And the truth is that we’ve done it all with no outside help.

Not a single penny of our money has come from outside of Georgia. There are no corporations or billionaires paying our bills.

We don’t depend on others to fight for progressive values at home.

We depend on you.

Will you join Better Georgia in our fight to change the political debate?

Gov. Barnes knows how important it is to build a permanent progressive infrastructure. He knows that an investment in Better Georgia will advance progressive values, ballot issues and candidates. Please follow his leadership and pledge to give each month to make a big difference for progressive values in Georgia.

Give $10, $25 or $50 each month.

Donate now.

Sincerely,

Executive Director
Better Georgia

P.S. Please don’t let the amount you can give stop you from taking action now. Donations of $15, $10 and $5 all add up to a bigger war chest to fight the state’s radical, right-wing leadership. Donate now.
