What’s wrong with political candidates in Georgia?

Democrats fared miserably in the last statewide election. And many Republicans weren’t exactly thrilled with their choices.

Kenny B. explores an important issue with the question: “What are Georgia voters missing in candidates?”

Executive Director Bryan Long discusses that question in the video clip below. A partial transcript is included following the video.

Transcript:

KENNY B: What did Georgians not see in the last election — overwhelming putting the Constitutional offices to the Republicans? What is it the electorate is not seeing with Democrats?

BRYAN: What is it we’re not seeing with Democratic candidates?

KENNY B: Yes, with the candidates that proposed to serve in those offices.

BRYAN: I don’t think it was — and I’m not an expert on campaigns or elections — but I think that voters are frustrated with both of the parties right now and they just didn’t have a candidate that they believed in last time. I think there were a lot of Republicans who weren’t happy with Nathan Deal — and you might have been one of them.

KENNY B: Yes, indeed.

BRYAN: So we’re just frustrated with the quality of elected officials that we have right now. And that’s just the way it is. We’re not trying to change those elections but we do want to hold those people who are in the offices now accountable to issues that we need to face today.

KENNY B: Would you support a Republican candidate if given the right platform.

BRYAN: Sure. There are good Republicans, moderate Republicans. I would support a Republican who is not supporting the ‘personhood’ amendment. There’s a Democrat who’s doing that in this session, Rick Crawford, in this coming session. Any of those fringe issues that take our eye off of better jobs and better schools. That’s the problem. I will support any Republican who wants to vote and pass policies that create an environment that brings better jobs and better schools to Georgia. This is not partisan.
